Tesco 'Food to Fork'
On Thursday 25th February, Primary Five visited Tesco on the Lisburn Road for an educational tour. The children were greeted by Sharon and Rachel from Tesco and were taken round the store, learning about the sugar content in food. The children found this activity fascinating and are now better informed to make healthier decisions in the future. The pupils also got to make their own healthy breakfast, which they took home to sample and will discuss in class. Sharon and Rachel treated the children like VIPs, giving them access to the large walk-in fridge and freezer, the staffroom and even the work elevator which carries the food cages from floor to floor. The visit to the bakery was a big hit, when the children got to meet Waun, who was baking tiger rolls and had cookies ready for the children to sample. The visit connected well to our curriculum and previous World Around Us topic, 'You Are What You Eat,' and many learning opportunities will be taken from this visit and used within the classroom. What a fantastic morning, with an excellent class who are always keen to learn!
